Be part of the Green the Eastside Initiative
LA CAUSA works with students that have been pushed out of the traditional high school system to obtain their highschool diploma, while learning leardership skills and creating a better community through green initiatives.
We are looking for an independent, hard-working, and motivated interns to help us with the following positions
Several Green Project Coordinators:
Garden Coordinator:
Maintain a school garden and begin the development of a new educational garden
Facilitate a group of 5-6 high school aged students every Friday from 8:30 -3pm in the developing garden
gather resources and materials for the continue growth of gardens
develop and teach lessons around the garden
potential work with elementary students
Food Systems Coordinator:
Assist in the development of a food assement in East LA
Map out the routes in which food arrives in East LA
Develop educational workshops for the coomunity (Spanish/English)
Work with a group of 5-6 students in developing the assestment
Work with different stakeholders in the community to increase the availability of fresh local produce
Green Building Coordinator:
work on developing curriclum around energy efficiency, gray water, edible landscaping, native landscaping, and LEED certification
Assist in the development of the first LEED green home in East LA that will serve as a showcase and use for LA CAUSA
TA classes on Green Building
Work on hands projects in gray water and enegry efficiency
Qualifications
• Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
• Excellent proven research experience
• Proficient in Microsoft office suite
• Quick learner, willingness to take on any task (i.e. research, whatever is needed)
• Solid work ethic, positive can-do attitude, high standard of professionalism
Timeframe and Compensation
This internship is intended for college seniors or graduates who will be with us 10-20 hours per week for 3 months or 6 months period. Hours and workdays are flexible to meet intern needs and we can work with you and your advisor to ensure you receive college credit for the internship
The position is unpaid, but LA CAUSA is committed to teaching you about sustainable communities and supporting your career development. Please do not apply if you are looking for a paid position.
