Los Angeles Communities Advocating for Unity, Social Justice, and Action (LA CAUSA) engages historically disenfranchised young people and their families from East Los Angeles to take action against the injustices that impact low-income communities of color. LA CAUSA fosters a commitment to social justice and nurtures a variety of skills necessary to act as agents of resistance and community transformation. LA CAUSA fulfills this commitment through the creation of an inclusive and supportive community where we utilize culturally relevant instruction within our educational, vocational, housing, sustainable and leadership development programs.
The Green the East Side campaign began in 2009 with the need to create a greener East Los Angeles. We began by creating educational workshops offered free to the community on topics of energy efficiency, water conservation, and much more. Then we moved on to create schools gardens, in order to connect our youth to the food they eat. And as more needs were identified the more programs we began to develop.
